Program Overview—3 workshops in 6 months

This certificate is for experienced coaches, executive coaches, and supervisors who want to build the skills and confidence to offer an enhanaced supervision service to their clients.

This program is delivered part-time over six months and is designed around three intensive two-day workshops delivered at our Hult Ashridge campus.

Advanced Coaching Supervision

Each workshop includes a session of live supervision in small groups, where creative methods of supervision are demonstrated and participants have the opportunity to supervise and receive live supervision. You will be invited to bring questions emerging from your coaching work. Teaching methods include input, sharing of theory, frameworks and models of coaching supervision, small and full group discussion, pair work, and experiential work.

Workshop 1

November 17-18, 2025

What Is Coaching Supervision?

Consider the benefits and risks of coaching supervision. What are the basic outcomes and effects of supervision? How can supervision be used effectively in practice? We also use reflective theory to explore the different levels at which we can work as a supervisor.

Workshop 2

February 16-17,. 2026

Understanding the Supervisory Role

Familiarize yourself with new areas of supervision focus through working with some of the most established models of core qualities, challenges, aspects of personality, and feedback. We’ll also discuss the Ashridge view on assessment, evaluation, and feedback to supervisees.

Workshop 3

April 13-14, 2026

Individual vs Small Group Supervision

Think about the different ways of working as a supervisor in small groups. Consider the purpose of supervision and benefits that individual and group supervision work has for different client groups. Small supervision groups are used as a platform to explore client dynamics and group relationships.

Assignment

At the end of these workshops, you’ll write two supervision case studies. Writing case studies offers an opportunity to reflect rigorously on your current supervision work—in particular, how you behave differently with different supervisees. The case studies will also embed your practice in a tradition of contributing to professional knowledge and practice through careful reflection on individual cases.

    Progress to accreditation

After completing this certificate, you'll have the option of transferring onto the Postgraduate Diploma in Organizational Supervision. This comprises a further three workshops, shifting focus to organization development supervision, and culminating in the opportunity to become an Ashridge-accredited supervisor.

    Ashridge coaching philosophy

At Ashridge, we see coaching as a relational practice. While we take it as read that serving our clients is the primary task of a coaching relationship, we have a particular perspective on the nature of this relationship. We take the view that the relationship between coach and client is at the heart of effective coaching and is, therefore, the central vehicle for learning and change. We see this as a mutual and co-creating relationship rather than a remedial contract to solve a problem.
