Most marketing professionals recognize that the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) plays an integral role in shaping the marketing landscape globally. With a rich history spanning over a century and members across more than 100 countries, CIM qualifications are one of the most in-demand marketing qualifications requested by employers worldwide. That’s why at Hult, we offer a CIM-accredited Master’s in International Marketing, while our Bachelor of Business Administration offers students the option of pursuing a CIM-accredited major in marketing.

This accreditation represents a hallmark of international distinction, positioning our students as standout candidates in the competitive global job market. The integration of CIM qualifications with their degree curriculum opens doors to professional certifications and access to industry events like The Marketing Club and The Pitch competition, as well as a network of like-minded marketing professionals.

We’ve put together some of our prospective student’s most commonly asked questions about CIM-accreditation below. If you’ve targeted a career in marketing and are weighing up the benefits of a CIM qualification, read on to find out why it’s such a valuable move.

What does it mean for a course to be CIM-accredited and what are the benefits?

Being accredited by CIM demonstrates that the degree contains meaningful and relevant marketing content that is in line with the Global Professional Marketing Framework and contains the key capabilities that employers are looking for in successful graduates.

The benefits include allowing students to complete globally recognized, lifelong qualifications, gain membership to the world’s oldest marketing institution, and begin their journey to Chartered Marketer status. 48% of CIM graduates are promoted or receive a pay rise within 12 months of graduating.

What kind of careers can CIM accreditation help me pursue?

Everything from Graduate Assistant roles to director of marketing, content creators, project managers, and business-related roles where strategic planning and analysis are key features.

Does CIM accreditation make a difference when applying to universities or jobs?

Yes! After university degrees, CIM qualifications are the most sought after by employers. CIM qualifications are applied in their nature—this demonstrates the ability to select and apply appropriate skills and models depending upon the theme and client. 35% of marketing leaders have a CIM qualification, the most common after a university degree (46%).

What extra value will I get from a CIM-accredited course compared to a standard course?

Graduates benefit from increased employability as a result of the course emphasizing the key capabilities requested by employers, including an increased understanding of the current drivers in marketing—from AI to digital techniques and consumer behavior.

Will I get any additional qualifications or certifications from studying a CIM-accredited course?

You will have the opportunity to gain a globally recognized qualification that is OFQUAL regulated. Students on an accredited degree will be able to claim credit and module exemptions on the Certificate in Professional & Digital Marketing and the Diploma in Professional & Digital Marketing. This means you can complete these in half of the time and for significantly less cost than non-accredited degree students.

Are there any special programs or opportunities available to CIM-accredited students, such as internships or networking events?

You can access the Marketing Club for free and will have exclusive access to training courses, My Development e-learning, and Continual Professional Development (CPD), which is a key requirement when working towards Chartered Status.

How well-recognized and respected is CIM among professionals?

CIM is a globally recognized brand with members in over 135 countries. As the only body to award Chartered status, it is the oldest and most recognised institution that offers qualifications, training and membership to marketers during their entire professional career. In partnership with the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI), members will also benefit from a joint membership with CIM and AMI.
