Hult students and faculty are known around the world for their unwavering ambition and academic excellence, and we’re always thrilled when others acknowledge and celebrate their achievements as well! That’s why we’re proud to announce that Poets & Quants have featured one of our undergrads, Maria Alonzo, in their ranking of the 100 Best & Brightest Business Majors of 2025.

Meet Maria Alonzo

Her natural curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit have driven her to excel as she nears the completion of Hult’s bachelor’s program. Over the past three years, Maria has grown not only personally but also professionally, as she’s taken on different intern experiences and business placements. She has also made a significant impact on the Hult community, serving as President of the Hult Student Association, Boston Campus Undergraduate Lead Ambassador, and Orientation Leader, where she has created a welcoming environment and inspired others with meaningful experiences.

Hult: What is the biggest lesson you learned studying business

Maria: I realized that no one succeeds alone—teamwork, resilience, and the ability to listen are just as crucial as technical skills. Through group projects, live client challenges, and networking opportunities, I learned that business isn’t just about generating profit or finding the right strategies—it’s about people. Embracing collaboration has been instrumental in my growth, allowing me to appreciate different perspectives, think critically, and adapt to challenges with confidence.

H: What advice would you give to a student looking to major in a business-related field

M: “Your network is your net worth.” This quote from strategy coach Ilhiana Rojas Saldana has stuck with me ever since I heard it at a Hult panel. Building meaningful connections—through internships, conferences, events, or even class discussions—can open doors you never expected. The relationships you cultivate will be just as valuable as the skills you gain in the classroom, so take the first step, start conversations, and always be authentic. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help, whether it’s your professors, classmates, or industry professionals, seeking guidance will only strengthen your knowledge and boost your confidence.

H: Which academic, extracurricular, or personal achievement are you most proud of?

M: Serving as President of the Hult Student Association is an achievement I will always be immensely proud of. Leading a student body was both a challenge and a privilege, pushing me to grow in ways I never expected. This role strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while teaching me the importance of active listening, empathy, and patience. Balancing academics with managing a team required strong time management, adaptability, and creativity. From brainstorming initiatives to executing events, I learned how to bring people together and create impactful experiences for the Hult community.

H: Tell us a fun fact about yourself?

M: I dream of opening a restaurant in the Dominican Republic, but for now, I treat exploring Boston’s best eats like a full-time job. (If there were an award for the most restaurant reservations made in a week, I’d definitely win!)

Congratulations on your incredible journey so far, Maria! Wishing you all the best for the future.
