(BOSTON – August 23, 2012) Colin Pyle – a currency trader turned entrepreneur – faces freak storms, chaotic traffic and perilous mountain passes as he crisscrosses the emerging nation with his brother Ryan. Starting in the seething metropolis of New Delhi, the pair will head north towards the Pakistani border and then loop anti-clockwise around the entire country, via Kerala in the far south and Darjeeling in the northwest. The India Ride is expected to take 60 consecutive days of riding, covering over 14,000km.The Pyle brothers are no strangers to extreme journeys. In 2010, they earned a Guinness World Record for their 18,000km trip around China – the longest continuous journey by motorcycle within a single country. Now, as then, their adventure will be made into a TV series. An accompanying book will also be published to shine a light on India’s diverse people, booming cities and stunning natural scenery.
“We set a Guinness World Record in 2010 for our 65-day expedition and television production in China,” said Colin. “We thought we would build on that success and try to circumnavigate another of the world’s most exciting and rapidly developing countries: India.”
Colin and Ryan are both from Toronto, Canada, but before their adventures in Asia, they followed very different paths. While Ryan was in China concentrating on his work as a photographer, Colin was back home building up a successful currency trading company. He later became CEO of Mandarin House, an international language school with operations in China and Europe, and began studying for an MBA at Hult International Business School.
“There are so many fantastic networking opportunities at our campuses,” said Hult President, Dr. Stephen Hodges. “Innovative partnerships are being forged all the time, and students are increasingly using these new connections to bring exciting projects to fruition.”
Studying at Hult gave Colin the chance to team up with Halo, a start-up that produces a new, life-saving type of motorbike helmet. Both Pyle brothers are now shareholders in the company. But it isn’t the first time the brothers have worked together. They also founded a production company, G219 Productions, which made their soon-to-be-screened series about China.
Like many Hult students, Colin is using his business knowledge to create opportunities for himself and to help others. During the trip to India, for example, he has managed to secure high-profile sponsors such as Tag Heuer, Halo, Zenith, the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi, and Hult. The brothers will also be using the trip to raise funds for the Seva Foundation, which provides healthcare and support for vulnerable communities worldwide.
