An insightful and informative evening of discussion examining various aspects of contemporary diplomacy-this is one way to describe Tuesday evening at Hult London.

His Excellency Lachezar Matev, the Ambassador of Bulgaria to the United Kingdom, delivered a lively presentation on various aspects of a diplomat’s life, told diplomatic jokes and shared curious incidents from his career.

The Ambassador talked about his views on the highs and lows of what it takes to represent one’s country abroad, and the way in which diplomacy has been evolving and adapting to the challenges of a dynamic and globalizing world. Dr. Matev took questions from the lively audience, who also set out to test his knowledge of foreign languages.

The evening ended with a promise for more discussions of diplomacy to follow in the near future.

Dr. Matev has served the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in different positions since the early 1980s, as a part of Bulgarian diplomatic missions in Prague, Madrid and London.

Dr. Matev has represented Bulgaria in a number of international forum, including UN agencies and EU institutions. He has a degree in international relations and did his graduate studies at the Moscow Diplomatic Academy
