Making your mark in the luxury industry used to be all about who you knew rather than what you knew, but with brands rising and falling so quickly in popularity over the last few years, practical skills and innovative ideas have become commodities that luxury employers need in their employees—and that’s where your business degree can help. Market research skills and the ability to spot trends are crucial in this industry, as is creativity, which you’ll need in spades. A good understanding of how to bring a product to market could take you far, too—something you will definitely understand after completing a business degree.

Demonstrate practical experience on top of this, from either your classes or an industry internship, and you will have a significant advantage over other candidates applying. Entrepreneurship is a dream career for many people, and in today’s marketplace, one of the best ways to start your own business is to take advantage of the boom in technology and the smaller, specialized workforces it requires. A risky path which requires a lot of hard work, many Hult graduates and current students have nevertheless told us that starting their own tech business is one of the most fulfilling things they have ever done. Whatever your chosen industry, you’ll need to be passionate about your product and have the knowledge and practical skills to back it up. That’s why a lot of Hult students spend a couple of years post-graduation on the job learning the development skills they’ll need before deciding whether to start their own tech company.

What to expect: Whether technology or entrepreneurship is your chosen discipline, you’ll find that strong networking skills and a good understanding of the market is essential.
