Classic Hult techniques will be used to teach employees at Emirates NBD, including the Action Project. This is a Hult house specialty, where a real business problem is set out by a senior executive whose company wants to know the solution, and a team of students is given a few weeks of intensive work to find it.
Previous Action Projects have involved unsolved mysteries put in the hands of Hult International Business School students by leading companies across the world, including the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
But this time, the Action Project has a tantalizing twist. Individual executives will propose their own projects for their own bank, after looking at their old workplace through new eyes – eyes trained by Hult to look at the world differently. Every participant’s plan will be presented to a panel of the bank’s senior executives, with the top three clinching a career-boosting Top Project Award.
The six-month Managerial Leadership Program, which began in January, will use another Hult trademark: technology that allows faculty from its five campuses across the world to teach NBD employees at the bank’s Dubai headquarters. So NBD students will be taught in webinars and online classrooms, as well as face-to-face education. Hult has a strong local presence through its Dubai campus, but also has campuses in Boston, San Francisco, London and Shanghai – a global reach wider than any other leading business school.
The program is for a select group earmarked by the bank as people to watch, because they have strong potential to go further. The course is designed for executives who have recently taken responsibility for managing managers, or are about to do so. Emirates NBD said: “This is a leadership development program for our potential senior leaders, needed to enhance their strategic capability and prepare them for higher roles.”
Rick Pudner, NBD’s chief executive, underlined the importance of the project by personally launching it with an inaugural speech in January.
The curriculum has five main parts: Driving Sustainable Growth, Customer Orientation, Performance Management, People Development, and Personal Effectiveness.
The bank is the largest in the Middle East, measured by assets.
