Action Learning Internships for college students: Advantages
Resume/ CV building
Employers look for work experience. They are particularly interested in the build
up of transferable skills and in familiarity with relevant work environments. Each
undergraduate internship is selected specifically to act as a building block along
an individual student's chosen career path, to strengthen the student's resume/
CV.
Awareness of opportunities
Internships for college students provide the opportunity to more accurately consider
whether a career is, or as critically, is not suitable before making a full commitment.
Development of capacity for REFLECTION
Critical to learning through experience is the development of the ability to reflect
on, and learn through, each new experience. Reflection is specifically encouraged
throughout your undergraduate internship.
Development of Key Skills
It is widely recognized that there are certain skills and personal attributes the
build up of which is conducive to success in both work and life. Key Skills, such
as communication, numeric, information technology, problem solving, people, self-learning
can be evidenced through internships for college students and can be accredited
to achieve nationally recognized and valuable awards. They can be used to earn credits
towards our accredited leadership program.
Contacts/Networks
Internships for college students provide valuable opportunities to generate personal
contacts in the furtherance of an individual's career.
Work opportunities
Many past undergraduate internships have led to the securing of future employment.
Greater academic insights
Most internships for college students are in an area of particular academic interest
and therefore afford the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of an issue-
a process actively built into the reflection process.
Action Learning Internships for college students: structured programs
While all undergraduate internships are designed around the specific needs and abilities
of each individual student, Hult also offers programs that are designed around institutional
requirements and expectations.
Two day pw semester programs(Spring, Summer or Fall)
Two days pw is sufficient to get an insight into a particular organization or business.
It is not enough time to get a thorough understanding, real hands on experience
or to become part of the team. Combined with study programs and travel it is still
a very valuable experience. Contacts made often lead to other opportunities. Some
business areas are just too busy for this particular format, for example advertising,
journalism, international banking, consulting (some aspects).
Four day pw semester programs(Spring, Summer or Fall)
Four days pw is sufficient time to be able to assume responsibility within an organization
and for it to be able to justify more intense training. Undergraduate internships
of this nature offer particularly rich and rewarding experiences that are of real
value to potential employers and which afford great networking opportunities. For
some sectors it is the only way- journalism, broadcast media, advertising, consulting,
multinationals, international banking, the film industry.
Block programs(Summer)
A period of intensive academic coursework, (tailored to needs), combined with a
period of full time work, usually 4-6 weeks. Such programs can have a European base
as easily as a London one. These are exciting and valuable undergraduate internships
with an emphasis on any discipline- the arts, architecture, banking, politics, international
business...
Networking programs
Only for exceptional and focused students. Students with a specific career interest
can have a networking program designed through which they meet top people in London,
in that particular field. A cutting edge research project is agreed and the interviews
enable the student to canvas a variety of high-level opinions. They then prepare
a report synthesizing these various views and submit this to the people they interviewed.
Students get cutting edge knowledge, high-level networks, and a multitude of opportunities
to impress!
Group programs
Many universities bring groups of students on study tours. We can arrange visits
and talks as required, and we can arrange short-term work experience or work based
projects around such visits.
Action Learning Internships for college students: a valuable experience
As you can see, Hult’s Action Learning undergraduate Internships and structured
programs integrate classroom teaching with practical, hands-on experience across
a wide variety of industries and functions. We make sure all the internships for
our college students provide the skills, knowledge, contacts and future opportunities
that are needed to successfully enter a demanding job market.
